19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
